Ever since the advent of Daily Fantasy Sports and the big jackpots promised to the winners I get bombarded by players looking for ways and roster structures in order to win the big jackpots.
I enter these big tournaments with the same hopes as my listeners and readers do. Today I’m going to build a model for you to get an idea of what it will take in order to maybe win a monster DFS Fantasy Football tournament.
QB: Alex Smith Kansas City Chiefs $6,600: In order to win you need to find value and Smith at $6,600 might just provide you some solid value this Sunday. He might not be the sexiest pick out there but if his pre-season numbers can be believed it looks as though he has already bonded with FA WR Jeremy Maclin and the two have hooked up for a couple of touchdowns in the pre-season. Smith and the Chiefs have a tough task on Sunday against the Houston Texans that most likely will deter owners from rostering him. If you want to win the big one on Sunday Smith might be your guy.
RB: Adrian Peterson Minnesota Vikings $9,200: Peterson is pricey but he’s going to be the workhorse out of the Vikings backfield and he seldom disappoints. Look for Peterson to shred the San Francisco 49er defense and rack up huge points on Sunday.
RB: Isaiah Crowell Cleveland Browns $6,100: Now that Terrence West has been traded and rookie Duke Johnson’s myriad of injuries Crowell is going to be called upon to be the workhorse in the Browns backfield. He’ll also be running behind one of the best offensive lines in the NFL and with his big game capability he could provide excellent value on Sunday.
WR: Jeremy Maclin Kansas City Chiefs $7,600: As mentioned before he’s been on the receiving end of a couple of Smith’s pre-season touchdown passes. Because so many doubt Smith DFS owners will probably pass on Maclin and if he and Smith succeed on Sunday against the Texans Maclin will provide huge rewards for you this weekend.
WR: Odell Beckham Jr. New York Giants $8,900: Beckham hasn’t looked great this preseason but he is healthy and if he can pull off the type of numbers on Sunday like he did in 2014 $8,900 will look like a drop in the bucket and he shouldn’t have that much difficulty against the lackluster defense of the Dallas Cowboys.
WR: Davante Adams Green Bay Packers $5,500: Jordy Nelson is out for the season and Adams is now the second option for Aaron Rogers and the Packers. With the more expanded role look for possible big games from Adams like the 21 Fantasy point game last season against Dallas. Against the Bears this Sunday a big game is very possible.
TE: Travis Kelce Kansas City Chiefs $6,000: Kelce was a favorite of Smith’s last season and if this pre-season was any indication 2015 shouldn’t be any different. If the Texans prevent Maclin and Smith from hooking up look for Kelce to see plenty of targets and hopefully big points on Sunday.
K: Adam Vinatieri Indianapolis Colts $5,000: The Bills defense is better but they will be no match on Sunday against the Colts and that means plenty of opportunities for Vinatieri to rack up points for your roster on Sunday.
Defense: Seattle Seahawks $5,000: The Rams lackluster offense should be putty in the hands of the Legion of Boom and for me a no brainer in week #1.
Good luck this weekend Fantasy Football owner!
