Week two of the Fantasy Football season begins Thursday September 17th. While I think it’s a bit premature to begin ridding your roster of underperforming players it’s never too soon to at least consider some players from the waiver wire that might help your roster down the road. If you are one of those owners who like to cut and run below are some options you can consider adding for week number two.
Much like week number one there aren’t any byes for week 2. Kansas City plays host to Denver on Thursday night and the New York Jets are in Indianapolis on Monday night for a game against the Colts. Everyone else plays on Sunday this week.
Dallas Cowboys WR Dez Bryant is out anywhere from 4 to at least 6 weeks after having surgery to repair a broken bone in his foot.
Washington Redskins WR DeSean Jackson is out 3-4 weeks with a hamstring injury.
Cleveland Browns QB Josh McCown has a concussion and is listed as questionable for this Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans.
Arizona Cardinals RB Andre Ellington injured his knee and is listed as doubtful for this Sunday’s game against the Bears. He hasn’t been ruled out yet for this Sunday but keep your eye on this as he could be out anywhere from 1-3 weeks.
Week 2 Waiver Wire Options
Marcus Mariota QB Tennessee Titans: Mariota made huge noise in his NFL debut throwing for 4 TD’s and zero interceptions. On the day he was 13-16 for 209 yards. He’ll face a much stiffer test against the Browns on Sunday and if he continues playing at this level he won’t be sitting on the waiver wire for very long. If you need a backup QB or you are ready to pull the plug on the QB you already have Mariota is currently available in over 60 percent of all Major Fantasy Football leagues.
Carson Palmer QB Arizona Cardinals: Palmer threw for 3 TD’s Sunday against the New Orleans Saints on 19-32 passing for 307 yards and more importantly zero interceptions. Palmer may wind up throwing the ball even more against the Bears this Sunday if Ellington can’t play and if he can perform at or even near to what he was able to pull off against a Bears defense that is much better than what he faced against the Saints you will be a very happy owner. Currently Palmer is available in just over 50 percent of all Major Fantasy Football leagues.
Ronnie Hillman RB Denver Broncos: In spite of an offensive line that couldn’t get the job done Hillman wound up being the Broncos leading rusher on Sunday. Hillman gained 41 yards on 12 carries and didn’t have any passes thrown his way nor any attempts from the Red Zone on Sunday. As long as starter C.J. Anderson is nursing a toe injury Hillman is going to get carries. If he makes the most of them he’ll continue to get playing time and if he does you will look like the smartest owner in your league. Hillman is currently available in just over 50 percent of all Major Fantasy Football leagues.
Dion Lewis RB New England Patriots: LeGarrette Blount will be back for week 2 but Lewis was the workhorse in his absence with 69 yards on 15 carries and was the leading rusher for the Patriots. He also caught 4 balls on 5 targets for an additional yards and that also bodes well for further playing time. Lewis is available in over 80 percent of all Major Fantasy leagues so he might be worth an add this week against the Bills.
Terrance Williams WR Dallas Cowboys: With the injury to Dez Bryant Williams becomes the number 1 receiver and of course will draw the oppositions best defender. On Sunday he caught 5 passes on 8 targets for 60 yards but the majority of his targets and catches came after Bryant left the game so I look for Tony Romo to look Williams way quite a bit over the next few weeks. This week Williams should be a good add this week against Philadelphia and at least as long as Bryant is out.
Donte Moncrief WR Indianapolis Colts: Moncrief had a big opening day with 6 catches on 11 targets for 46 yards and 1 touchdown. Obviously the Colts being behind most of the game had something to do with all the throws his way but targets are targets, catches are catches and of course touchdowns are a beautiful thing to see. He’ll probably see plenty more this week against the Jets and with Colts number 1 receiver Y.Y. Hilton nursing various maladies picking up the available in over 60 percent of all Major Fantasy Football leagues Moncrief might be a good thing this week.
Austin Seferian-Jenkins TE Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Seferian-Jenkins had a huge game last Sunday catching 5 passes on 6 targets for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns including a 41 yard touchdown pass from rookie QB Jameis Winston. Mike Evans is still listed as questionable and as long as he is I expect to see more of the same from Seferian-Jenkins especially this Sunday against New Orleans. Seferian-Jenkins is currently available in over 75 percent of all Major Fantasy Football leagues and he should be a good add this week.
Tyler Eifert TE Cincinnati Bengals: Eifert is another TE that had a monster opening day but unlike some this looks as though it may continue throughout the season. Eifert hauled in 9 catches on 12 targets for 104 yards and 2 touchdowns Sunday against the Raiders. He didn’t see any balls in the Red Zone but with this kind of production don’t be surprised if Eifert becomes one of QB Andy Dalton’s favorite targets. This Sunday the Bengals play the San Diego Chargers so this could be a good week to add the over 50 percent available Eifert to your roster this week.
