Fantasy Football: Early Thoughts on Week Five of the FanDuel Main Slate

Week four of the Fantasy Football season is just about in the books. It’s been an interesting season thus far to say the least and I’m really looking forward to week five of both the season long and weekly Fantasy Football at FanDuel this week…..and here are some early thoughts.

Did you have Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan and WR Julio Jones on your roster this week? If you did congratulations as you are probably smiling right about now. Ryan threw for 503 yards and Jones was on the receiving end of 300 of those yards. Incredible performance. This week the Falcon’s travel to Denver to take on the Broncos and I’ll be curious to see how many hop on the bandwagon this weekend.

Speaking of Ryan: he’s still available in over 20 percent of ESPN Fantasy Football leagues so maybe you should consider checking your waiver wire once in a while.

New England Patriots QB Tom Brady ($8700) makes his much anticipated return this Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. That’s a high price to pay for Brady but the Browns defense does leave a lot to be desired. It will be interesting to see how many want to pay that steep of a price for a QB making just his first start of the season.

Staying with the Patriots Browns game Sunday; Patriots RB LeGarrette Blount ($7,500) let us down this past Sunday but will have a very good opportunity to redeem himself this Sunday against a Browns defense allowing RB’s to average 21.68 Fantasy points and 118 rushing yards a game. The Patriots are a ten point road favorite and if Brady and company rack up a bunch of points early it will be “Blount time” in the second half.

The Dallas Cowboys rookie RB Ezekiel Elliott ($7,900) has improved each and every week this season. Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers Elliott rushed 138 yards on just 23 carries good enough for 22.2 FanDuel points. This coming week Elliott and the Cowboys host the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals are allowing just 14.55 Fantasy points to RB’s this season.

I’m keeping an eye on the Philadelphia Eagles Tight End situation this week. The Eagles travel to Detroit to face the Lions and thus far this season TE’s have feasted on the Lions defense. Zach Ertz ($5,600) is supposedly returning this week but if for some reason he doesn’t we pivot to either Brent Celek ($5,100) or Trey Burton ($4500).

Shootout alert: The San Diego Chargers face the Oakland Raiders in Oakland this Sunday. Vegas has set the over under at 52.5 points and the Raiders are an early week home favorite. All the usual suspects are probably in play this week and more than likely they will be BIG disappointments.

The New York Giants secondary is allowing WR’s to average 24.57 Fantasy points a game and WR Jordy Nelson ($8,00) and the Green Bay Packers will be their host this Sunday. Nelson has the highest touchdown total (4) amongst NFL WR’s and is the fourth most expensive WR at FanDuel this week.

I think we can stay with the Packers Giants game and the Giants Odell Beckham Jr also has a nice matchup against a Packers secondary allowing WR’s to average 30.43 Fantasy points a game. Beckham Jr is averaging 12.5 FanDuel points a game and has yet to have that “big” game most of us have been looking for. That could all change this Sunday night under the prime time lights in Green Bay.

I’ll have much more as the week goes on so please stay tuned!
