As the 2016 NHL season gets underway we return to our love of all things hockey, especially fantasy hockey. With that being said let’s give some advice and take a look at some different options for your Draft Kings daily fantasy lineup based on the action packed slate of games being played all across the league today.
1. Don’t Reach for the Star.
It’s something that is always said but it proves true, although drafting the likes of say, Alex Ovechkin is enticing… It’s not the smart play. When you draft the superstar you are betting the farm that he’s gonna produce. God help you if you stake it all on him. Spend your money more wisely and help round out your team. Instead of a top 5 player someone I’m targeting Tyler Seguin against the Avalanche at 9:00 EST tonight.
2. Don’t Draft the Goalie Early.
Make it your aim to stay as far away from drafting a Jonathan Quick, Corey Crawford caliber guy as you can as they will only eat away at your auction allowance. A guy I am very high on at a better price is Brian Elliott of the St. Louis Blues. I like his matchup against the Rangers today. New York has a talented but young goal scoring attack. Expect the Blues’ offense to take advantage of the porous New York defense and keep the puck away from Elliot
3. Get Your Goal Scorers Early and Often.
Goals get you points and points get you cash, so it makes sense then to spend most of your cap space on guys who are going to do just that. A couple guys I’m going with are Steven Stamkos and Patrick Sharp. I like their matchups for today’s games against weaker defensive lines. You shouldn’t go wrong with either of them, Sharp plays the Avalanche and Stamkos faces New Jersey.
4. Don’t Forget to Take a Sleeper.
Dylan Larkin is my pick for the day. Detroit has said numerous times this offseason that Larkin would have an even bigger role in year two of his young career. He is a very talented goal scorer and playmaker. Although I project the Panthers to win, expect Larkin to make his presence felt early and often against a talented Florida team.
Rejoice fellow fans of the ice that our beloved sport has returned for yet another exciting season and best of luck to all of you on your daily fantasy lineups for not just today, but the rest of the year.
