Week 18 of the Fantasy Basketball season begins Thursday February 23, 2017. Depending on your league scheduling you are finishing a long matchup or starting a new matchup. Either way it’s all good! I think I have some help for you in some very specific categories.
Teams with three games this week are the Charlotte Hornets, Denver Nuggets, Los Angeles Clippers and New Orleans Pelicans. Every other NBA team has two games on their schedule this week.
Do You Need Blocks this Week?
Toronto Raptors C Lucas Nogueira has just two games this week but over the past five games he averaged just over a block per game and for the season just less than two blocks a game. He’ll also score a few points and grab a couple of rebounds as well as a steal per game but what you want from him he will give you and that’s blocked shots. Newly acquired Serge Ibaka might cut into Nogueira’s minutes a bit but Nogueira registered three blocks in just 16 minutes Wednesday night against Charlotte so I would roster Nogueira with confidence. Nogueira is available in over 90 percent of all Major Fantasy Basketball leagues.
Charlotte Hornets SF Michael Kidd-Gilchrist has three games this week and he averaged 1.2 blocks per game over the past five games and just over one block per game for the season. He’s also a solid contributor in points (9) and rebounds (7.5) plus he’ll get you the occasional assist with very good shooting percentages. Kidd-Gilchrist is available in just over 50 percent of all Major Fantasy Basketball leagues.
New Orleans Pelicans SF Terrence Jones missed the past four games due to a thumb injury but he should be fine this week. The Pelicans do have three games this week and Jones is averaging a block a game this season. He’s also averaging 11.5 points and 5.9 rebounds and his shooting percentage from the floor is much better than at the line. Jones is available in just over 75 percent of all Major Fantasy Basketball leagues.
What about Assists?
Philadelphia 76ers PG T.J. McConnell has only two games this week but if you need assists how does an additional 15 or so this week sound to you? If that sounds good McConnell also scores points, rebounds, gets a couple of steals and has solid shooting percentages that will help you win your matchup this week. The great thing is that McConnell is available in just over 60 percent of all Major Fantasy Basketball leagues.
Dallas Mavericks PG Deron Williams has spent a bunch of time injured this season but when he is healthy he drops dimes. Like 6.9 per game to go along with 13 points and nearly two triples a night with pedestrian numbers in rebounds and steals. He’s also solid in shooting percentages so he won’t really kill you other than the fact he spends a lot of time injured. The Mavericks have two games this week and Williams is available in just over 60 percent of all Major Fantasy Basketball leagues.
The Denver Nuggets have three games this week and there are a couple of options worth considering this week; Emmanuel Mudiay has been laid up with a bad back but when he does play he averages 4.2 of them on 28 minutes a night. Option number two takes place when Mudiay is out and Jameer Nelson averages five of them per game and averages 32 minutes a night when Mudiay can’t play. Either way Denver has what you need this week.
Charlotte Hornets PF/C Frank Kaminsky III has been terrific since Cody Zeller has been out. Over the past five games Kaminsky III is averaging 7.6 rebounds a game on 32.8 minutes. He also scored 16 points a game with three assists a block and a steal plus nearly two triples a night. Even if Zeller returns the Hornets have three games this week and Kaminsky III will still do enough to help you in nearly every scoring category and is available in just over 70 percent of all Major Fantasy Basketball leagues.
New York Knicks C Joakim Noah has been hurt but the All Star Break should give him time enough to heal and with two games this week Noah can help you get rebounds. Like nearly nine per game. He won’t help much anywhere else but he will get you rebounds this week.
Memphis Grizzlies PF JaMychal Green does a little bit of everything; but mostly he rebounds. Over the past five games Green is averaging 7.4 rebounds and eight points with exceptional shooting percentages. The Grizzlies have two games this week and Green is available in just over 75 percent of all Major Fantasy Basketball leagues.
Memphis Grizzlies SG/SF Tony Allen is known for his defense. If you need steals this week Allen is your man. This season Allen is averaging 1.8 steals per game. He’ll also kick in nearly ten points, about 5 rebounds, a couple of assists and a block per game. The Grizzlies have two games this week and Allen is available in just over 65 percent of all Major Fantasy Basketball leagues.
Boston Celtics PG/SG Marcus Smart has been a huge source for steals. In the past five games alone he averaged 3.8 steals; for the season he’s averaging 1.7 steals a game to go along with 10.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.6 triples. He’s been getting plenty of minutes since Avery Bradley’s injury and the way he’s been playing that should continue even after Bradley returns. The Celtics have two games this week and Smart is available in just over 50 percent of all Major Fantasy Basketball leagues.
Toronto Raptors SF DeMarre Carroll has been playing extremely well lately and over the past five games he’s averaged one steal and 1.2 steals for the season. Over the past five games Carroll averaged 12 points, 6.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 2.2 triples. The Raptors have two games this week and Carroll is available in just over 60 percent of all Major Fantasy Basketball leagues.
Good luck this week Fantasy Basketball Owner!!
