Starting Pitching Options for Tonight
Call me crazy but I like Kansas City Royals SP Nate Karns ($6300) a LOT tonight against a Chicago White Sox offense with a 25 percent strikeout rate, wOBA of .272 and wRC+ of 71 against righties this season. This season Karns has a 19 percent strikeout rate, 4.04 SIERA and 4.05 xFIP with 7.43 strikeouts per nine innings pitched and 2.35 bombs per nine innings. The wind is going to be Karns friend as 11 MPH winds blowing in are in the forecast.
Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta ($10,100) has a nice opportunity tonight against a Philadelphia Phillies offense with a 23 percent strikeout rate, wOBA of .317 and wRC+ of 94 against right handed pitching this season. This season Arrieta has struck out 27 percent of the hitters he’s faced, 3.23 SIERA, 3.22 xFIP and strikes out 10.55 hitters and allowing 1.86 bombs per nine innings pitched . The winds will be blowing in tonight in Chicago and if you want to spend up tonight Arrieta might be the one to do that with.
Los Angeles Dodgers SP Julio Urias ($7400) has a good opportunity tonight against a San Francisco Giants offense with a 21 percent strikeout rate, .275 wOBA and wRC+ of 71 against lefties this season. Urias has struck out 17 percent of the hitters he’s faced, 5.95 SIERA, 4.90 xFIP with 6.35 strikeouts per nine and hasn’t allowed a home run in only 5.2 innings pitched. The sample size for Urias is small but the Giants struggles against lefties are the real thing.
Stacking Opportunities for Tonight
We have the highest over under total tonight in the Texas Rangers/Houston Astros game and it is also the game with the most likelihood of being either delayed or postponed. I will leave this one alone and let you decide if you would like to risk this one or not.
The Washington Nationals are absolutely crushing lefties this season. Tonight they face Arizona Diamondbacks leftie Robbie Ray who also seems to be a better pitcher on the road than he is at home. I still like the Nationals bats in general and specifically Ryan Zimmerman ($3800), Jayson Werth ($3300), Anthony Rendon ($3200) and Trea Turner ($4200).
The New York Yankees have been killing right handed pitching and they have a tough opponent in Toronto Blue Jays rightie Marcus Stroman who also seems to be stronger on the road than at home. With the wind blowing out to right at about 11 MPH I like Yankee bats Aaron Hicks ($2900), Chase Headley ($3400) and Brett Gardner ($3000) tonight.
The Minnesota Twins have had a good amount of success this season against right handed pitchers; Oakland Athletics SP Kendall Graveman has had a good amount of success on the road and both with be in play tonight in Target Field tonight. The wind is expected to be blowing out to right field at about seven MPH and I like Twins bats Miguel Sano ($3700), Max Kepler ($3500), Eddie Rosario ($2600) and Brian Dozier ($3900) tonight at home against Graveman.
Phil’s Top Three Plays for Wednesday
Minnesota Twins SP Hector Santiago has a 49 percent fly ball rate to right-handers this season and with the wind blowing out at seven MPH I really like Oakland A’s OF Khris Davis ($3700) tonight. This season Davis has a .376 ISO, wOBA of .412 and wRC+ of 175 with nine of his ten bombs coming against right handed pitching.
Boston Red Sox OF Andrew Benintendi ($4100) has a good opportunity tonight against Baltimore Orioles SP Kevin Gausman and his 38 percent fly ball rate to lefty bats. Benintendi has a .165 ISO, .379 wOBA and wRC+ of 143 against right handed pitchers with all three of his bombs against righties this season.
Los Angeles Dodgers SS Corey Seager ($3600) has a good opportunity tonight against San Francisco Giants SP Jeff Samardzija tonight and his 37 percent fly ball rate and 7.36 home runs per nine innings when he pitches on the road. In the friendly confines of Dodger Stadium Seager has a .172 ISO, .414 wOBA and wRC+ of 160 against righties with only one of his five bombs coming at home.
Good luck at FanDuel tonight!
