Join the This Week and Tennis team as hosts Craig Doyle and Phil Naessens as they discuss how Naomi Osaka has taken the world by storm with her tennis and activism, Dominic Thiem wins his first major title and so much more!
Hosts Craig Doyle and Phil Naessens are back for another week of great tennis talk.
The US Open has concluded and there were plenty of fireworks both on and off of the tennis court. Naomi Osaka defeated Victoria Azarenka in three sets to lift her third career Grand Slam Single Title and Dominic Thiem hoisted his first Grand Slam trophy with a gutsy, come from behind victory over Alexander Zverev.
Osaka made quite an impression during her three or so weeks inside the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center “bubble” and the guys discuss her great wins and odd behavior during the Western & Southern Open. The fellas applaud her activism but can’t help but wonder how it affects the rest of the ladies on the tour and especially her opponents who may not either understand her activism or may not agree with how she has gone about it. They also discuss the possible side effects of her Grammy-nominated rapper boyfriend Cordae and his conduct during a post-finals photoshoot.
Zverev had two sets to love lead over Thiem in the US Open Final and even served for the match but somehow lost the match in a five-set heartbreaker. The guys discuss what happened and how the match could change the lives and careers of both players.
The French Open has announced its 16 main draw Wild Card recipients, most notably Andy Murray and Eugenie Bouchard. The guys share their thoughts about Murray and Bouchard including their chances at having a successful fortnight.
